Slack is the default for most startups. Teams shows up when the company lives in Microsoft. Chat is how work moves. It is a terrible audit trail. Approving a wire in a thread that disappears is how money leaves without a record. Pick the chat the company will use. Put money movement on a path you can reconstruct.

You are on Microsoft 365, a customer or parent requires it, or IT already standardized there. Same rule: chat for talk, ledger for money.
Export is not a policy
If your only copy of a vendor approval is in Slack, you will lose it. Board consents, option grants, and wires belong in email or a repo with dates. We have searched chat histories in diligence. It is a bad time.
Access when people leave
Deprovision. Shared channels with investors are a leak. Treat chat like the rest of the stack.
Cost is a line item
Seats add up. So do unused tools beside chat. We will ask about software spend. Have an owner.
