Pilot
Pilot-style bookkeeping fits when
You want a vendor to process the transactions and you will still have an operator or fractional CFO who reads the output. Useful for volume. Insufficient if nobody asks why revenue moved.
Pilot vs Bench

Pilot and Bench both sell bookkeeping as a product. That can be a start. It is not automatically a CFO function. We have inherited files from both that looked ‘done’ and would not survive a quality-of-earnings. The question is not their brand. It is whether someone senior is reviewing the close, the cap table, and the story you will tell a lead.

Bench
The same: a processing layer for a simpler company. Check the cadence, the year-end, and whether you can get a real person when the raise starts. A portal is not a partner in diligence.
Categorized transactions are the floor. Accruals, deferred revenue, payroll true-up, equity — that is a close. Ask what they actually deliver. Then have someone who has sat in a raise read it.
CFO For Rent is bookkeeping plus fractional CFO leadership as one system — the same team that will be in the room when a lead asks about burn. We have done that since 1996. If a productized bookkeeping shop is all you need, use one. If you need the system, that is us.
Two bookkeepers and a founder spreadsheet is three truths. Pick a ledger owner. Hold a monthly close date.
